This online course meets the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding, and proficiency in Table A-III/4 of the STCW Code for the function Marine Engineering at the Support Level.

The online course covers the background knowledge and practical work to support:

  • contributing to a safe engineering watch;
  • communicating with the officer of the watch
  • using internal communication systems;

The course will also satisfy four of the six-month minimum sea-time requirements for certification as a Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch.

Seafarers who successfully complete this course will have the information necessary to interpret commands and be understood when it comes to matters related to watchkeeping duties, as well as the ability to perform a watch routine suited to the responsibilities of a rating as part of an engine-room watch.

Duration
This online course is based on a 30-hour in-person course.

Assessments

Written Examination
This course consists of one written exam: Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW). This exam contains 20 questions and requires a 70% passing score. The written exam can be taken online. You will receive three attempts for your exam. If you fail all three attempts, you must pay a retake fee
